Competition Brake Pad Bedding-In Procedure

Thank you for purchasing our brake pads.  The Unique Auto Sports RACE competition Brake pads are designed and manufactured in Australia for Australian conditions and race circuits.

As with all Competition brake pads the breaking in procedure is very important and if the pads are not bedded in properly we often see excessive pad or rotor wear.  This procedure is for bedding the pads in on the roads and excessive speed is not required. I must emphasise that this must be done on a quiet open road.

As on any vehicle the best results are achieved when the rotors are machined to remove and hard or high spots on the rotors.  We do recommend grinding the rotors but if this service is not available normal machining will suffice.  After machining please run 120 grit emery paper over the surface of the rotor to remove sharp edges.  Wash rotor with appropriate brake cleaning compound.

After installation of the brake pads follow this step by step procedure.

1)                  Check the brake fluid and top up if required. We highly recommend Motul Racing Brake fluid, which is synthetic but mixes with any residual of normal fluid and is fine for road use.

2)                  Check pedal to ensure high pedal level.

3)                  Run the vehicle up to 60Kph and bring the car to a rapid stop.

4)                  Check pedal height again after this.

5)                  Run the vehicle to 80Kph and bring the vehicle to a complete stop as fast as possible and with out allowing the Anti Lock Braking System to operate.

6)                  Repeat step 5 checking the pedal height after every stop.  This must complete a total of 5 stops using this procedure.

7)                  You will notice depending of type of brake fluid used that it takes a little more effort towards the end of the 5 stop.  This is normal.

8)                  Once completed all 5 stops, drive the vehicle until the brakes have completely cooled down. Try not to use the brakes during this cool down run.

9)                  Once the cool down procedure has been completed allow the residual heat dissipate completely.

10)              Drive Vehicle as normal.  You will notice that the brakes will continue to improve over the coming days or weeks as the rotors become conditioned to the pads.

Please Drive Carefully with respect to others!
