For optimal performance, we at Unique Auto Sports first make sure the car is in good order and has a good base.
Our mechanical checks cover many areas including:
- Correct spark plugs.
Due to different fuels in Japan plus some cars often have the wrong spark plugs, or incorrect heat range for Australian petrol and temperatures adn often wrong gap,
- Correct timing
- Injector clean
Injectors often get partially blocked over time
- Valve injection and throttle body clean
This may sound boring, often these things alone equate to more power by having the car breath better, have cleaner injectors and better spark. We have tested many spark plugs and have come up with the best Iridium spark plugs for performance vehicles in Australia which are running higher boost.
It is also very important that the cooling system is in good order especially with 300 ZX Twin Turbos as they run very hot. Before we turn up the boost we recommend a cehck over of the vehicle.

| OIL
PRODUCTS |

The next step is that we highly recommend changing oil to Motul or ELF which are high quality oils for engine and for gear boxes Redline Shock Proof Light, as we have found it be the best for gear changing, whilst offering great protection from pressures and heat in gear boxes. For differentials Redline Shockproof heavy for added protection and performance. Auto trans we recommend the Dextron 4 synthetic Redline fluids as again stands higher temps and pressures and we see great results especially on higher hp cars. For GTR’s we also recommend the Redline synthetic fluids for the transfer case. With the cooling system we use and recommend ELF premix coolant which has distilled water and is the exact mix of coolant to water. At UAS we also recommend engine oil flushing and coolant flushing which we use Wurth products and can be very important for both performance in lubrication and cooling flow and effectiveness. Again it may look clean when normal oil change is done but if a flush is added it strips off all the gunk and build up and oil becomes very black when drained.

| AIRFLOW

By adding either an aftermarket Pod or Panel filter, the car breathes better especially when the boost is increased.
On 300ZX’s a Ram Pod will produce a greater increase as the factory air box is very restritive.

| EXHAUST
|
|
Turbo's
need to breath, even just by changing the rear muffler shows around 20hp increase
at the wheels on R33 GTS-T. With a full exhaust straight off the turbo
with high flow 7 litre cat shows even more.
Gains
of up to 30kw at the wheels can be attained by fitting a complete turbo
back system to your turbocharged vehicle.

| BOOST
|
|
Fitting a quality Boost Controller is often the best bang for your buck. The 200sx, 300 ZX and GTR’S and GTS-T’s are over engineered for the standard boost. 300zx's for example run around 7psi standard, as seen after fitting an accurate boost gauge .We normally increase them to between 12psi and 14psi, the later if car has bigger intercoolers exhaust etc and everything is in good order. When turning up the boost it is important that the air fuel ratio is checked on dyno to make sure fuel system is in good order and not running lean.
Boost controllers are readily available from many manufacturers as both manual or pneumatic controlled units, and Electronic controllers (EBC's). If you want to go to an Electronic Boost Control system over the cheaper pneumatic systems, we recommend either the Trust Profec B as it holds boost the most consistent and are good value. Turbo Smart E-Boost II is also very good with great functions. |

| BLOW-OFF
VALVES |
The
s tandard
blow off valves found on most turbocharged vehicles usually need changing
when boost is increased, as they don't handle the extra boost. Fitting an
aftermarket blow off valve allows pressure to be released much faster, keeping
the turbo spinning and reducing lag when you re apply the throttle.

| INTERCOOLER
UPGRADES |
| We
have a large range of intercoolers using many different designs.Larger intercoolers
use Bar and Plate or Tube and Fin design, and are available in a size to
suit each application. Fitting a larger intcooler acts to reduce inlet temps,
keeping air cooler and denser, which in turn improves combustion and allows
higher boost to be safely run. |

| TURBOCHARGERS
|
|
We have fitted
larger ball bearing steel wheel turbo's to 300ZX. We recommend Garret
320 hp turbo's.
For Silvias, Skylines and GTR's high flow stock Turbos, or various after market turbo's .
